Keto Chocolate Mug Cake with Glaze Recipe

A delicious keto chocolate mug cake with glaze that’s 5.6 net carbs. The next time a chocolate craving strikes, enjoy this rich and indulgent low-carb chocolate mug cake.

This mug of chocolate cake is delicious with or without the glorious toppings. If you want a quick and easy chocolate mug cake recipe, you can omit the toppings. However, if you’re looking to take your moist mug cake to another level, take the time to make the chocolate glaze and whipped cream topping.

Low-Carb Chocolate Cake in a Mug

This recipe is based off of my favorite traditional, non-keto mug cake. I swapped out the flours and other ingredients to make the chocolate mug cake low-carb and keto friendly.

Once you have a low-carb chocolate cake in a mug recipe that you love, it’s excellent to use as a base in other recipes.

This chocolate mug cake uses both almond and coconut flour which seems to provide the best texture and flavor experience.

Keto chocolate mug cake ingredients

(Exact measurements are in the printable recipe card below)

  • Almond flour
  • Coconut flour
  • Cocoa powder
  • Swerve, granular
  • Baking powder
  • Sour cream (I use FAGE Sour Cream)
  • Low-carb milk of choice (Unsweetened Milkadamia preferred)
  • Egg
  • Vanilla

What you need for the glaze

  • Swerve, powdered
  • Cocoa powder
  • Water or milk

Additional topping: Whipped cream (optional)

Using a microwave-safe mug that’s at least 8 ounces, mix together the almond flour, coconut flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and Swerve until well combined.

Add the sour cream, egg, milk, and vanilla and stir until smooth.

Microwave for one minute and thirty seconds or until the top of the mug cake is set.

In the meantime, prepare the glaze by mixing together the powdered Swerve, cocoa powder, and water or milk substitute.

Once the mug cake is ready, top with whipped cream and drizzle with the chocolate glaze.

Allow the mug cake to cool before digging in. Don’t leave your fork in the mug cake while it cools. The fork gets extremely hot and is like a hot poker if you do so!

Although this chocolate cake is easy, it’s also enough work to deter you from making a second. Unless you plan to share, there’s no reason to make a larger cake than the perfect portion served in a mug.

I don’t know about you, but if I know there’s a large cake in my kitchen, I’m probably going back for a second or third slice. But, if I make a cake in a mug, my brain realizes I’m satisfied enough to not put in the effort for a second serving.

Ingredients

Chocolate Mug Cake

  • 3 Tablespoons almond flour
  • 1 Tablespoon coconut flour
  • 1 Tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 Tablespoon granular Swerve
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 Tablespoon milk of choice
  • 1 Tablespoon sour cream
  • 1 egg
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla

Glaze

  • 1 Tablespoon powdered Swerve
  • 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons water
  • Whipped topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. In an 8 ounce, microwave-safe mug, mix together the almond flour, coconut flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and swerve until well combined.
  2. Add the sour cream, egg, milk, and vanilla and stir until a smooth batter is formed.
  3. Microwave for one minute and thirty seconds or until the top of the mug cake is set.
  4. Meanwhile, prepare the glaze by mixing together the powdered swerve, cocoa powder, and water or almond milk.
  5. When the mug cake is finished, top with whipped topping if desired and drizzle with chocolate glaze.
